Gaeta
Gaeta
is on the rock of Orland Mount, and it was the favourite holiday
resort for Romans. It is in the middle of the so-called “Ulysses’
Riviera” and it is a wonderful tourist town made of
natural beauties and beautiful landscapes, together with historical,
religious and monumental features. Gaeta is on a promontory
surrounded by sea. The sea here was proclaimed a “Blue
Oasis” and it is managed by WWF.
Gaeta is a Middle Ages town, with a big castle, Norman bell-towers,
ancient walls, churches, Roman monuments and many beautiful
beaches.
The more modern part is called Borgo or Spiaggia, settled
by anglers and farmers along via Indipendenza, with many coloured
shops. The coast of Gaeta is made of creeks, cliffs and wonderful
uncontaminated beaches. Gaeta has seven beaches: S. Agostino,
S. Vito, Arenàuta, Ariana, 40 remi, Fontania and Serapo.
The Gulf is the last part of the so-called “Ulysses’
Riviera”. The coast is flat for many kilometres, and
then it is more variegated thanks to Ausoni and Aurunci Mountains.
The area is protected from cold winds and the climate is always
mild. The presence of the sea influences the temperature,
even in the inner parts: winters are never cold, and summers
are not too hot. It is one of the best climates in Italy.
